ABOUT
Practical Learning
Through seminars and projects, students learn matters that they cannot fully learn at university, together with professors from various departments of Hokkaido University and outside businessmen.
President’s Greeting

My name is Mayu Yoshino, the third president of the Future Pioneers Club.
The Future Pioneers Club is a student organization with the vision of “maximizing the value of university life.” During this precious period as students, one way is simply to attend classes, complete assignments, take tests, do research, earn credits, and graduate. That is certainly a valid path. But since life only comes once, wouldn’t you want to experience something more before stepping into society?
You may find friends who share your passion, seek out a mentor who can guide you, or share an idea you want to realize but don’t know how to start.
The Future Pioneers Club (hereafter, “the Club”) provides an environment where all of this is possible.
The Club is built on three pillars: Events, Seminars, and Projects (PJs). Events include welcome parties, year-end gatherings, camping, and barbecues—fun activities throughout the year. Through Seminars, members gain knowledge essential before entering society. Projects (PJs) are where students support one another to make their own ambitions a reality.
Through the cycle of Seminars and Projects, some members have even launched their own startups while still in school. Participation is always voluntary, yet the Club is a place where valuable information and opportunities naturally flow in from both inside and outside the university. Still skeptical? Wondering if the name sounds suspicious? (laughs) But really, who changes without any stimulus? University life happens only once. Why not spend it with the best companions you could ask for, pursuing what you truly love to the fullest? On behalf of all executives and members, we warmly welcome your participation.

Advisor’s Greeting

Future Pioneers Club – “Ambition”
I am Tsuchiya, Specially Appointed Professor and Head of the Startup Creation Division at Hokkaido University’s Industry-Academia-Community Collaboration Promotion Organization, and I serve as an advisor to this club. The Club is a student organization that engages in practical learning through various seminars, projects, and events. At its core, the Club aims to cultivate:
Autonomy – developing a strong sense of self so that you are not swayed by rumors or others’ opinions.
Independence – standing on your own without relying on others.
Self-sufficiency – understanding financial responsibility, including earning money, and fostering economic independence, including entrepreneurship.
Once you step into society, you will realize that there are many things you cannot fully learn at university. The deeper you go into your specialization, the more you encounter things you cannot do or do not know, yet need to understand. Overcoming these challenges and acquiring the necessary knowledge from a broader perspective requires many skills and experiences.
One of these essential elements is human relationships – the ability to consult, cooperate, and collaborate with others in relationships without hierarchy. At the Future Pioneers Club, students learn these skills through after-school seminars, various projects, study abroad opportunities, and more, building friendships based on mutual support and putting their learning into practice.
We encourage you to make the most of your university years by enjoying your time as a student, forming meaningful friendships with peers and mentors, and creating a truly fulfilling student life.
